Youth Review: 29th May - 4th June
Good start for Carrick’s Youth Teams
Carrick’s Under 13 and Under 15 XI’s have both started the season well, with both winning their opening league matches, and the U13’s also making progress in the Banoge Cup.
The Under 15’s had a 45 run win at Cregagh. Batting first, they scored a formidable 161 for 5 in their 20 overs. Max Burton led the way, smashing a rapid 52 which included nine boundaries, and sharing in an opening partnership of 60 with Tom Stewart. An excellent 53 run partnership between AJ Hussell and Ethan Thompson followed which enabled them to reach their impressive total. A fifty from Fleetham led the reply for Cregagh but Carrick’s total was always going to be too much for them, and they finished on 116 for 4 at the end of their 20 overs.
The Under 13’s scored back to back victories on successive nights last week. They travelled to Bangor on Wednesday in in a closely fought match, won by 5 wickets with a couple of balls to spare. Accurate bowling backed up by some excellent fielding saw them restrict Bangor to 59 for 3 from their 20 overs, with Jack McConnell taking 2 for 15. Nathan Toland (17), Marcus Baird (13), Tyrone Simms (10) and Josh Boyd (14no) all made useful contributions as Carrick got home in the 18th over with five wickets down.
They followed this up with a 31 run league victory over Laurelvale at Middle Road on Thursday. A super unbeaten innings of 40 from Ben Buchanan-Rolleston, which contained six boundaries, helped Carrick to a very useful total of 101 for 7 in their 20 overs, with Scott Gardner and Mark Hunter also getting into double figures. In reply Laurelvale made 70 for 5 with Mark Hunter taking two wickets.
