Carrick CC Women announce exciting development

Updated: Mar 15, 2020

Carrickfergus Cricket Club are delighted to continue the development of their Women’s set-up by announcing 2 new positions ahead of the 2019 Season.

Laura Caughey has been appointed to the role of Team Manager. Laura has been a driving force behind the side and recently was appointed Team Manager for the NCU Women’s Senior Team.

Julia Forbes has been appointed team captain with Erin Macquarrie as her vice-captain. Both Julia and Erin have been involved in the Women’s Cricket set-up at Carrickfergus from the outset and both have been included in various NCU winter programmes. Indeed, since its launch 2 years ago, Amy Harpur and Lucy McMahon-Beattie have also progressed into the Northern Cricket Union U17 Development Squad over the Winter period.

Commenting on her appointment, Laura said, “To see this group of girls start as beginners and watch them grow to love the game and become part of the Club has been fantastic. I’m extremely proud to see Julia and Erin take on these new roles in our setup. They lead by example as players and as young women, they are great role models for younger girls at our Club.”

Newly appointed captain Julia stated, “I’m so proud to be named the Ladies captain this year as I’ve loved my time playing for the Club. I think over the last few years we’ve really been able to see the team improve and develop together. I’m looking forward to this coming season and what it has in store for our team and I think with the help of the indoor training we can really improve from last year.” Vice-captain Erin added, “Winter training has been going well and I feel that the Ladies team are really starting to grow as a group, both on and off the field. I’m now just excited to see what this season has in store for us all.”

If you are interested in getting involved in Women’s Cricket, whether it be to maintain fitness levels, learn new skills, play with a supportive group of players or try a new competitive challenge, Carrickfergus Cricket Club will be running several Open Training Sessions this Summer, the first of which is scheduled for 11am on Sunday 12th May, all you need is a water bottle, our coaching team will be on hand to support you regardless of the level you may be coming at.
